Pool Table Movers Calgary

Calgary You Move Me customers occasionally ask us whether we can move pool tables. We are pleased to say we can! However, we can't simply pick up the pool table and move it from one location to another: this isn't safe or practical. Due to their size and weight, pool tables must be disassembled before they can be moved.

Our team can dissamble a pool table, however you can save yourself money by doing it yourself!

How to Disassemble a Pool Table

Disassembling a pool table isn't as difficult as you might think. Simply follow these steps to take your pool table apart so it is safe to move to your new home.

1. Detach the Pockets

If your table has pocket liners, the first step is to remove them. Check what is holding the pockets to the table: usually, they are held in place by either staples or screws. You can use a flathead screwdriver to pry staples out of the table. In many cases, it's easier to do this from underneath the table than from above.

2. Remove the Rails

Most pool tables have three or four bolts holding each rail in place. Remove these using a socket wrench so you can lift the rails away from the pool table. Rails can be big and awkward to handle, so get another person to help you with this step.

3. Detach the Felt

Removing the felt from the bed of the pool table is the most delicate part of the disassembly process, so take care! If staples hold the felt to the pool table, you can gently lever them out using a flat head screwdriver. Felt that is glued down is harder to remove without tearing it. You can try peeling the felt back from the table, working your way gradually around the table to avoid tearing it. To keep the felt safe, fold it and put it somewhere safe where it won't get wet or stained. Since felt is usually the first part of a pool table to wear out, another option is simply rip it off and treat yourself to new felt to match your new home.

4. Remove the Base

Bolts hold the main base of a pool table to its frame. Use power tools to remove these bolts and loosen the base. Get another person to help you lift out the base, as it is likely to be very heavy.

5. Disassemble the Frame

The next step is to detach the legs from the frame of the table. They are usually held together with bolts, which you may need to use power tools to remove.

Packing a Pool Table

After separating a pool table into its components, you can pack each one up separately. Use furniture pads to prevent damage to finished wood pieces during transport. Don't forget to pack up the pool balls and cues too - you'll need them for your first game in your new home! Keep all the packages together and label them clearly as pool table parts so they don't get misplaced during the move.
