At You Move Me, we do our best to alleviate our customers’ moving stress. To help us achieve this, we commissioned the Moving Stress Index, and surveyed more than 1,000 adults across the United States to learn more about their moving experiences. As it turns out, Americans find moving incredibly stressful!
A third of Americans (33%) think moving is one of life’s most stressful events, topping the list ahead of job interviews (32%) and even first dates (9%)!
Some of the most common problems Americans experience when they undertake a move for themselves include:
- Broken belongings (47%)
- Arguing with a significant other (35%)
- Leaving items behind (34%)
If you’re from the Midwest, you may want to reconsider tackling a move without a professional. More Midwesterners (59%) have experienced issues when moving themselves versus Americans who live in the West (46%), South (45%) and Northeast (44%). Perhaps it’s those cold winters!
